Join me on my quest to eat more "real food"! I passionately believe in the health benefits of eating food made from fresh, "real" ingredients and I want to share this with others. I am not a gourmet chef, but I have learned a lot about cooking along the way. And the big secret is ... it's not that hard!

On this site you will find SIMPLE recipes for turning fresh ingredients into tasty meals, in less time than you might think.

Chicken and Winter Vegetable Soup

Feeling veggie-venturous?  This hearty soup is a great way to sample some winter root vegetables that may be new to you.  Go ahead and get crazy… mix in a few rutabagas, turnips, parsnips, or celeriac with your common carrots and potatoes.  Even my avowed vegetable-hating father-in-law agreed that the results are delicious.

The first step in this recipe is to make a pot of nutritious homemade chicken stock.  Wait, wait, wait, before you stop reading: if you’re new to stock, it’s really not difficult or time consuming.  Plus, it tastes great [Continue reading ...]

Juicy Roasted Chicken with Lemon & Rosemary

Mmmmm, juicy roasted chicken.  I have loved roast chicken since I was a kid.  My dad made a delicious bird using a stand-up vertical roaster, and I had a lot of fun animating the poor plucked, headless bird while it was helplessly standing there (see brief chicken dance demonstration here).  Thus began my love for cooking…

Greek Chicken with Tzatziki Sauce

And they are restored! This sauce is so good. It tastes amazing with the Greek chicken, on fresh green beans, on a piece of whole grain bread or pita, or just straight out of the bowl. Kidding about [Continue reading ...]

.

Quinoa (pronounced keen-wa) is an ancient grain that has been making a resurgence lately because it is high in protein and gluten free. I like quinoa because it’s easy. As an extra bonus, it’s tasty, and it can [Continue reading ...]

Stir Fry 101: Chicken & Mushrooms

Stir fry is a handy technique to have in your repertoire.  Like my favorite Savorra recipes, stir fry is fast, plus it can be a tasty way to turn an assortment of on-hand vegetables into a meal.  I made this stir fry last week, just based on the ingredients we happened to have on hand, and it turned out to be one of the tastiest I have made.  As an extra bonus, it is not spicy at all so it will be great for guests if you have one non-spicy [Continue reading ...]
